Imagine how much money we could save if government contracts (supply, etc) were under scrutiny! No more $100 per screw/nail and other wasteful spending! But that's a whole different animal that's still running somewhat free out there... :)

Agreed, completely! And truly, with everything, WE are responsible for making sure that DFAS has paid us correctly for things. We've had debt taken out that we didn't owe, we've been paid too much, paid too little... I wonder who's up, us or the Army :)
I do agree tho, $225 isn't much considering the danger level that some service members face on a daily basis!

Putting it to the member to be responsible to count the days may seem ridiculous, but it’s really no more ridiculous than submitting a travel voucher and having to count days (especially on extended TDY’s!), account for every meal and expense, etc… And truly, with everything, WE are responsible for making sure that DFAS has paid us correctly for things. I would imagine there are many coming and going. I think the major thing here is that the sum is really insignificant. Considering it's hazardous duty, I would expect that it would be a bit more than $225 for 30 days. I think doing the $7.50/day really makes it look ridiculous, and putting it on the member to be responsible to count the days and ensure they got paid the right amount. At least they don't have to prove they were really being shot at though :)

Cora I agree, but it’s not just the big wigs coming and going. I have to say, I'm not as opposed to this change, mainly because the service members actually *serving* in a combat area won't be affected much other than their first and last months in theater, and R&R times. The people that it WILL effect in a big way are the bigwigs that will "visit" the troops for a day, and get the entire month's IDP. I never felt that this was fair. So truly, IMHO, I hope it has as much benefit as they expect and do only minimal financial damage to those who actually *deserve* the IDP.
And just to let you all know before you bury me in your backyard, my husband is currently deployed to Afghanistan with the 45th IBCT... So this DOES affect my family...
Cheers! :)

The way I first read info on this change was that the service members were going to have to prove they were in imminent danger or something.
