Secret Service Agents Gone Wild

Thanks to the Freedom of Information Act, new and disturbing facts have been learned about the President’s own Secret Service. The Secret Service, a specialized organization charged with solely the protection of the President and the securing of areas around the President’s location, has been charged with numerous crimes. These crimes include your standard government blunders such as illegal wiretaps, leaking information, improper use of weapons and drunken behavior. But of course, there is the not so standard list of mishaps that we can add to the list such as involvement with prostitutes, publishing pornography, and even sexual assault.

One such Secret Service agent, whose name was not released, was discovered by the Federal Bureau of Intelligence (FBI) for calling a wiretapped number. He later confessed that he had only found this number on a flyer a woman was handing out in the street, and he called it simply out of curiosity.

Another interesting incident happened in 2008, when a Secret Service sergeant approached an undercover police officer dressed as a prostitute, and tried to solicit sex from the officer. The report states that he was on duty and even driving a marked secret service car at the time. According to records, he was arrested and later put on administrative leave.

But the most interesting incident of all happened when the President visited the Dominican Republic in 2005. The “detail-leader” of the team assembled to protect the President of the United States, showed up to work heavily intoxicated. The once again unnamed agent “was relieved from duty after reporting for work apparently under the influence of alcohol.”

Several other reports involving alcohol have been released, including a Secret Service official getting on board a commercial airliner as armed security, and being intoxicated. Another agent was arrested after crashing his car into a ditch and found to have a blood alcohol content of .009, over the legal limit.

This information was made public because of reports of a prostitution scandal inside the Secret Service. And not just a simple scandal, there are accusations of a major prostitution ring being organized through members of the Secret Service. As the reports of this nature come to light, the American people can only wonder what kind of scandals are being pulled off that we don’t know about?

Max Millien, the spokesman for the Secret Service, argued that the “vast majority” of the report released earlier this week did not involve the Secret Service in any way. However, the part that did apply to the Secret Service was bursting with bad behavior and criminality on the part of this government agency.

The Secret Service has been slow to respond to allegations against it, and while they stall even more roll through the door. Even though the list released to the press earlier this week has been heavily censored, it still shows a wide range of evidence against the morality of the agency. Many individuals are pressing for a tighter regulation of these somewhat “rogue” agencies, while more and more reports of this nature are coming out about many of the federal agencies. There is one thing for certain about the United States government however; it will always be very slow to change.
